CUSTOM CABINETRY IN EPPING

Who builds custom cabinetry in Epping?

Northside Joinery builds custom cabinetry for Epping homes and surrounding northern Melbourne suburbs. We are based in Lalor, less than 5 minutes from Epping, and we personally measure every project before production begins.

We design and install cabinetry for kitchens, laundries, bathrooms, walk-in wardrobes and other storage areas. Every solution is tailored to the actual dimensions of your space, not sized to a showroom template.

Services available in Epping:

We also service Thomastown, Mill Park, South Morang, Bundoora, Mernda, Doreen and surrounding northern suburbs from the same Lalor base.

CUSTOM VS FLAT-PACK

Custom cabinetry or flat-pack? What Epping homeowners need to know.

This is the most common question we get from Epping homeowners and it deserves a straight answer. Flat-pack is not always wrong. Custom is not always necessary. Here is how to tell the difference.

Where flat-pack works

  • Rental properties or short-term situations where longevity is less important than cost
  • Simple, square rooms with standard ceiling heights and no awkward corners
  • Budgets that genuinely cannot stretch to custom, and where a good install will still look clean

Brands like Kaboodle at Bunnings and IKEA METOD can work well in the right conditions with a careful installation. We will tell you honestly if flat-pack is a better fit for your project.

Where custom cabinetry is the right call

  • Victorian terraces, weatherboard homes and older Epping properties where walls are not square and ceilings vary
  • Kitchens, bathrooms and laundries where moisture, heat and daily use require materials specified for the application
  • Wardrobes and storage where the layout needs to work around the actual room, not the other way around
  • Any space where the finish needs to hold up and look intentional five years from now

Custom cabinetry is measured and made to suit the exact dimensions of your Epping home. Corners, uneven walls, awkward ceiling lines and limited storage areas are all planned for before a single panel is cut. Flat-pack cannot do that. The other difference is scope clarity. When you choose Northside, finishes, hardware, dimensions and inclusions are locked in writing before production begins. There are no surprise defaults on install day.

YOUR QUOTE

What affects the cost of custom cabinetry in Epping?

Every custom joinery project is different. Room size, ceiling height, materials, hardware, appliance integration, site access and finish selection all affect the final figure. We do not publish ranges because a number without context does more harm than good. What we do instead is give you an accurate, itemised quote based on your actual space.

What we assess at the measure

  • Room dimensions including ceiling height, floor level and any walls that are not square
  • Appliances, plumbing and power points that need to be integrated or worked around
  • Material and finish selection based on the room's moisture exposure and daily use
  • Hardware specification: hinges, runners, handles and internal fittings
  • Site access and any conditions that affect the install
  • Staging options if you want to complete the project across multiple rooms or timelines

After the measure you receive a fixed quote with full inclusions listed. No scope creep. No surprise extras. No defaults on install day.

MATERIALS

What are the best materials for custom cabinetry in Epping?

The right material depends on where the cabinetry is going, how much daily use it will take, and the look you want to achieve. Here is how we guide Epping homeowners through the choice.

Moisture-exposed areas — kitchens, bathrooms, laundries

Moisture-resistant board with quality laminate or melamine is the reliable workhorse for Epping kitchens and laundries. It handles humidity, cleans easily, and holds up in rooms that work hard. Two-pack polyurethane applied over moisture-resistant substrate gives a premium painted finish that resists yellowing and handles daily contact well. We do not use standard MDF in wet areas.

Living areas and wardrobes

Standard board with laminate, melamine or timber-look foil wrap suits bedrooms, walk-in wardrobes and living room joinery. Timber veneer panels are available for feature walls and wardrobe interiors where a natural material is preferred.

Hardware

Soft-close hinges and drawer runners are standard on all Northside cabinetry. We specify Hettich, Blum or equivalent European hardware because the mechanism life and consistency of action is noticeably better than entry-level alternatives.

Benchtops

We coordinate benchtop supply and installation with trusted Melbourne stone suppliers. Current options include engineered quartz, sintered stone, porcelain and timber. Note that engineered stone containing crystalline silica is banned for fabrication in Victoria from 1 July 2024. All benchtop recommendations are compliant with current Victorian regulations.

PLANNING YOUR PROJECT

How to plan custom cabinetry for your Epping home.

Custom cabinetry is not complicated when the process is documented clearly. Here is how a Northside project runs from first contact to finished install.

  1. Identify what you need it to do

Start with function, not aesthetics. What needs to be stored? What appliances need to be integrated? What plumbing, power or lighting points exist and where? These answers drive the layout. The finish comes after the function is resolved.

  2. Upload photos or book a measure

Send us three photos of your current space and we will give you a ballpark direction within one business day. If you are ready to get precise, book a measure appointment. We come to your Epping home, measure the real space including every wall angle and ceiling variation, and confirm scope, access and timeline before any design work begins.

  3. Design sign-off

We prepare drawings showing the layout, cabinet heights, door and drawer configuration and internal storage. Finishes, hardware and key dimensions are selected and locked in writing. You approve everything before a single panel is cut. This is the step that eliminates surprises on install day.

  4. Workshop build

Cabinetry is built in our workshop and quality-checked before it leaves. You will never discover a problem for the first time on your site. Panels, doors and hardware are all verified against the approved drawings before loading.

  5. Install and handover

We install on the confirmed date, protect your site throughout, and complete a punch list before we leave. If anything needs adjustment it is done before we sign off. Clean site, clean handover. 8-week guarantee from confirmed scope to completed install or we pay you $1,000 per week we are late.

SMALL SPACES

Custom cabinetry for small Epping homes and apartments.

Smaller spaces are where custom cabinetry earns its cost most clearly. A flat-pack unit that does not quite reach the ceiling, leaves a gap at the corner or wastes the space under the stairs is a visible compromise every day. Custom built to the actual room leaves none of those gaps.

What we focus on in compact spaces

  • Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry that captures every centimetre of vertical storage
  • Corner solutions designed for the actual corner angle, not a standard 90 degrees
  • Under-stair storage, alcove shelving and built-in joinery that uses space a freestanding unit cannot
  • Integrated appliance housing in kitchens to keep benchtops clear and the room feeling open
  • Sliding door wardrobes in bedrooms where swing clearance is limited
  • Laundry towers for stacked appliances in tight laundry cupboards

Epping apartments and townhouses built in the last 15 years often have standard ceiling heights and square rooms. Older established homes in Epping, particularly closer to the town centre, regularly have non-standard ceiling heights, uneven floors and walls that are not square. Custom is the only option that handles those conditions cleanly. We assess your specific space at the measure and tell you honestly which approach suits it best.
